SUMMARY:

James Lewis is an author of a various books of a project management, considers the game concept as finding a solution to a problem. He suggests that a game concept that starts by asking a question will lead to a problem to be resolved. For instance, would it be fun to play cowboys and Indians in space? What would it be like to race idea cars? After having made a firm decision of the game concept by the manager’s studio or the publisher, the game is successfully passed to the development team as to solve a problem. (Chandler, 2014, p. 6).

The start of many ideas is usually unclear, and these ideas are simplified by the development team so that everyone including potential players  can easily understand  and recognize the aims of the product and what major gameplay elements are needed to support and strengthen it. (Chandler, 2014, p. 6).

Nintendo, (2017). Super Mario Odyssey.

Game requirements features include the basic art, design and engineering, and these features must be supported along with any restrictions on the project, and basic technical and design documentation. The features must merge all within the established idea and mission statement. It is important that the team members demonstrate ownership of the game by getting involved in defining the core features set and prioritizing the other features. The feature set should provide some unique elements that set it separately from other games. This can be done by having the team brainstorm “must have,” “want to have,” and “would be nice to have” features, also having a discussion with the game developer, and finally produce a final prioritized feature set. The milestones and deliverables for each milestone are described after the feature set is well-defined and fits within the restrictions. (Chandler, 2014, p. 7).

REFLECTION:

I agree with Mr. Lewis that expressing a concept of a game is a complicated task because many game concept designs starts  with unclear ideas by asking a question which leads to find a problem to be resolved, however I disagree with him that the final problem will be solved by the development team, because I believe if at this very early stage the potential game players are involved by taking their opinions and ideas on how they want the game to look like will help the development team to understand better the needs of the clients . In my opinion this can be done by creating a script and storyboard and share it with the potential players for their feedback.

If I were in the development team I would have involved the potential players or clients in the testing stage as well because I believe this will help to improve the game before the game’s release date. Also, this will support the marketing team of the game because some players have already tested the game and enjoyed it. In my opinion the involvement of the potential players and their feedback throughout the game process is very vital.

Animation Blog

SUMMARY:

In 1877, A French inventor Emile Reynaud invented The Praxinoscope, and it was the first moving pictures with dramatic action. In 1868, the flipper book became extremely popular around the world (Williams, 2012, p. 14).

Nowadays the traditional animator still flips his drawings same method as a flipper book, however, before that he evaluates them either on the video or 35mm film camera. He stacks the papers in sequences from the bottom, then flips through the action from the bottom up. But if there is an error on the drawings, then it has to change and correct the mistakes on the drawings (Williams, 2012, p. 15).

In 1896, American newspaper cartoonist James Stuart Blackton shared with his American inventor Thomas Edison his own idea of the moving pictures. Mr. Blackton did some sketching of Mr. Edison, then he convinced him to do some more drawings. Later, Mr. Edison took some pictures of his drawings, and then he compared the drawings and the pictures. In 1906, Humorous Phases of Funny Faces was released in public. This animated short film began with a man was standing next to his girlfriend while he was smoking a cigar, and then he blew smoke rings at his girlfriend’s face, then she rolled her eyes, and a dog jumped through the hoop while a juggler was performing his juggling skills. Mr. Blackton used 3000 flickering drawings in order to invent the world’s first animated motion picture – the ancestors of the animated cartoon. The animated comics made the audiences laugh and it was a hit (Williams, 2012, p. 15).

In 1914, the first keyframe animation Gertie the Dinosaur was released in public. This animated short film began with a dinosaur who was named Gertie, and Mr. McCay showing his audience how he was giving commands to Gertie, for example, like a command to sit down, raise the left foot, raise the right foot, and bow to the audience. Mr. McCay used over 5000 keyframes drawings (Furniss, 2009, pp. 99 – 100).

REFLECTION:

I am surprised to learn that some of today’s animators still flip their drawings the same way as an old flipper book. Having all today’s technology, I found it very strange that some animators still use old ways for their drawings. I believe that with new technology both drawings, and animations have become much easier and faster. For example, we can use the flashback of a video camera instead of a flipper book which in my opinion will save time and effort for the animator.

I can’t believe that the famous drawing of Humorous Phases of Funny Faces, where a man puffed a cigar and blew smoke at his girlfriend, became very hit as first animated picture, because I found that the girl looked very annoyed and unhappy with the behavior of her boyfriend as he blew smoke on her face. If I had to draw the same picture, I would have drawn both puffed a cigar and blew smoke on each other, because in this way I believe people will find it funnier. In my opinion, if a microphone and voice recorder would have been invented at that time, I guess people would have been able to understand what they would say. Also, I think if they have been invented technicolor people would have found the drawing of Humorous Phases of Funny Faces more interesting as the color will show facial expression more than black and white.

SUMMARY:

Plagiarism is the misuse or theft of words, thoughts, ideas, and expressions of the other and presenting them as yours. Sometimes, some see the phenomenon of plagiarism as a violation of copyright, but these two concepts differ in two main principles: one, while copyright law protects the form of expression and not the idea itself, the execution of plagiarism means the use of the idea even when the form of expression is different. Second, the validity of the copyright expires 70 years after the death of the creator, but copying a work and presenting it on your behalf will never be considered a plagiarism.1

Plagiarism is common in a variety of creative fields such as music, theater, literature, journalism and academia.

There are cases in which plagiarism is unconscious, in people suffering from cryptomnesia, a memory disorder that makes it difficult for those who suffer to distinguish between things they themselves have thought of and what they have read or heard.2 So, some people struggles from the hard works. All you have to do to avoid the plagiarism is, to use your own words, and you have to use the in-text citations when you writing the phrases from another author’s books but you have to write it in your own words.

The word plagiarism derived from the Latin word “plagiarius” which means to you “kidnapper” the one who abducts the child.3

REFLECTION:

My opinion about plagiarism is that it's a huge crime and no one has the rights to plagiarize,  because plagiarism counts as stealing other people's hard work and effort that yourself have not worked for.

Even if the copyright expires 70 years after the creator's death, it's still illegal to plagiarize their works.
